In the past few months, my mom and I have become pretty much obsessed with subscription boxes. There are two big beauty boxes out there, Birchbox and Ipsy. The first one we signed up for was Birchbox for just $10/month. While Birchbox is mostly sample sizes of different beauty products, it tends to be really nice higher end products. Our last box had about $36 worth of products. Birchbox also has a really awesome point system which allows you to review products in order to get money off of your next purchase of a full size product.
Ipsy is the other beauty box also for $10/month. One of things we love about Ipsy is that each month it comes with a cute little cosmetic-like bag. Our last Ipsy package was about $50 worth of products.
When comparing Birchbox and Ipsy, we found that Birchbox has higher end, more expensive products but the sizes are fairly tiny. For example, we got a sample size of Coola Face Moisturizing Sunscreen, which runs about $30 for 1.7oz, but the sample size wasn’t even enough to cover my entire face once. Ipsy, on the other hand, tends to have larger, if not full-size products but they aren’t as high end as the Birchbox products. We actually like this better because if we really like something, it’s usually not overly expensive to buy more. Both subscriptions have you fill out a profile so your box is more personalized to you!
Target also has a subscription box that runs seasonally for $7. However, you have to go on and buy it pretty much as soon as it’s released because it sells out super fast! My mom signed up to get emails from My Subscription Addiction and they notified her as soon as the box was available!
For $7, we got about $40 worth of products including Olay Regenerist Dark Circle Correcting Hydraswirl (full size, usually $23), a Fekkai hair product (we got Brilliant Glossing, 2oz), a Sinful Color Nailpolish (full size), Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in 875 Gladiolus (full size) and Cutex Advanced Revival Nail Polish Remover Pads (each box contained 3 separate pads). Overall, Target was a great deal! This one is a little harder to gift and I would just save this one as a little present for yourself!
As far as Lifestyle boxes go, there are 2 that are on top as the best bang for your buck. These subscriptions are definitely more pricey but I totally think it’s worth it and is a great gift for every mom, sister and best friend out there. We got my mom a POPSUGAR Must Have Box for Mother’s Day this year and it did not disappoint in the slightest. These boxes run $40/month or $110 for a three-month subscription.
My mom’s first box contained tons of cool stuff including a hardback of Judy Blume’s book, “In the Unlikely Event,” a pair of Quay sunglasses, a Pacifica full-size eyeshadow palette, a bodywash infused buffer from Spongelle, Snap Infusion Super Candy, Sweet & Spark $30 giftcard, and a stretchy workout headband which all adds up to an insane $140 value. The second lifestyle box is FabFitFun which my mom just got me as a graduation present. I had looked at these boxes previously and wasn’t really impressed. However, I saw the summer box on instagram and I knew I just had to have it. Luckily, you can still purchase the summer box now! The summer box included a 24 karat gold necklace by Wren ($100), wireless speaker ($35) Tarte lip gloss ($19), I’ll Make You Look Amazing Daily Spray by Gorge ($25) Intensive Care Spray Moisturizer with Aloe by Vaseline ($6.49), FabFitFun and CosmoBody jump rope ($14), Inkling Roll On Perfume ($25), Scratch Nail Wraps ($12) and gift card to Headspace ($36). This adds up to over a $250 value! Each box costs $50/season or $180/year. AND IT GETS BETTER, if you are going to purchase FabFitFun Box, be sure to go through THIS LINK in order to get $10 off your subsciription!
