What to Wear: Summer Basics

With the weather seriously heating up these last few weeks, it’s time to put away all our bulky winter clothes and pull out our summer staples. The key to an effortless look this summer is having all of your basics now.

I don’t know about you, but I really hate putting on the same outfit I wore the last time I went out with a group of friends. It’s always a battle between I know this looks good and will they remember I just wore this. By getting all your summer basics now, you will have multiple pieces you can mix and match, dress up or down, depending on your mood. Here are all the things you need to have in you closet this summer.

Shorts: Printed & Denim

Old Navy Summer Shorts

I’m not afraid to say it but I love Old Navy. It may or may not have to do with working there last year but they are great about having the latest trends for super reasonable prices (never buy anything full price there, there’s always a sale going on). I love printed shorts and Old Navy has plenty to go around, from these pink and white pinapple shorts, to the black and white palm trees and even these navy and white seahorse print ones. It’s definitely going to be so hard to decide which ones I want to get, if not all of them! Besides a print, you have to have a good pair of denim shorts. I personally am not a fan of tight denim shorts which is why I’m obsessed with these boyfriend shorts also from Old Navy. They’re loose and comfortable. A lighter color is great for looking casual and a darker color keeps you looking a little more polished.

White Dress

A white dress, especially a sundress like this, can go so far in the summer time and is appropriate for any occasion. Pair it with flip flops or sandals and a denim jacket for a casual look, toss on a blazer and pumps for the office or put on your favorite pair of wedges, and statement earrings for date night.

Romper

A romper, like a white dress, is also very versatile. I’d go with a fun pattern or a bold solid to add some brightness into your wardrobe. Is it just me or does this one remind you of that Lilly for Target “Boom Boom” green print?

Cork or Espadrille Wedges

I picked up a pair of gold espadrille wedges last summer and they instantly became my go-to shoes. The neutral color made them great for summer and easy to match any outfit I had on. I’m hoping to pick up one of these pairs (or this one from Target) this summer to add to my espadraille collection.
